Sonnet 116
Let me not to the marriage of true mindes
Let me not to the marriage of true mindes
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration findes,
Or bends with the remover to remove.
O no! it is an ever fixed marke,
That lookes on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wand’ring barke,
*Whose worths unknowne, although his hight be taken.
Love's not Times foole, though rosie lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle’s compass come,
Love alters not with his breefe houres and weekes,
But beares it out even to the edge of doome.
If this be error, and upon me prov’d,
I never writ, nor no man ever lov’d.
Beatrice and Benedick, a marriage of true minds?
Well i think so. They learned to appreciate each others and see how compatible they truly are. No one would be able to keep up with their wit. They learned to value each other and realized the respect they had for each other became love. Their snide comments challenged each other and kept them entertained. I believe that when they realized that they can actually be civil with each other, that's was when they realized their true feelings for each other. Their marriage after the play, i can only imagine, that they will bicker and keep each other's wit in check. but at the end of the night they'll be happy that they are together. Their kiss at the end can be interpreted into two ways, a symbol of their love and harmony they learned to share or to stop the Beatrice's mouth from running. I think it symbolizes both. I see it as a tender action, yes to shut her up but it shows that with that kiss she allows him to fold her stubbornness to a man who is her match.

Mmm... so the kiss symbolizes her submission and that is what will bring "love and harmony" to their marriage? I think this is what comes from your text. Did I get the message right?
i liked everything you said until you said the kiss might have been to shut her up. Ok maybe quite literally it was, to enjoy a tender moment however metaphoricaly i doubt she has been kept shut up. I think their union is of intellect, love, harmony and no one in that marriage will ever shut the hell up. =)
